Beautifully embroidered mukluks

Art, history and culture are almost interchangeable in the Western Arctic, where music is played on ancient drums, while dancers in traditionally fashioned parkas illustrate stories from traditional life. This is the land of sunburst parkas - named for the spectacular ring of fur trim on parka hoods, designed to keep faces from freezing in winter winds that blow in across the Arctic ice pack. Fine needlework and traditional materials are combined in handsome mukluks and slippers. These are the original winter wear of the Arctic, now valued as unique gifts from mainland and Arctic island communities.
